SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Criminal Code to provide for escalating minimum penalties — according to the number, if any, of previous convictions — of five, seven and ten years for eight serious offences involving the use of a firearm if the firearm is either a restricted or prohibited firearm or if the offence was committed in connection with a criminal organization, to provide for escalating minimum penalties — according to the number, if any, of previous convictions — ranging between one and five years for other firearm-related offences and to create two new offences: breaking and entering to steal a firearm and robbery to steal a firearm.

SOMMAIRE

Le texte modifie le Code criminel afin de prévoir des peines minimales de cinq, sept ou dix ans, selon qu’il s’agit ou non d’une récidive, pour huit infractions graves pour lesquelles il y a usage d’une arme à feu, si l’arme en question est une arme à feu à autorisation restreinte ou une arme à feu prohibée ou s’il existe un lien entre l’infraction et une organisation criminelle. Il prévoit aussi des peines minimales de un à cinq ans, selon qu’il s’agit ou non d’une récidive, pour d’autres infractions mettant en jeu des armes à feu et crée deux nouvelles infractions, soit l’introduction par effraction pour voler une arme à feu et le vol qualifié visant une arme à feu.
