The session featured presentations by Mr. Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the IPU; Ms. Anita Bhatia, UN Women; Ms. Hilary Gbedemah, Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women Committee; and Ms. Carmen Alanis, Former Chief Justice of Mexico.

Presentations from these communities (including a Canadian researcher) initiated discussion on such topics as the strengths and weaknesses of existing international mechanisms (Sustainable Development Goals) and treaties (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) in facilitating domestic legislative processes.

To close, the committee chair proposed a draft convention with the Réseau francophone d’éthique et de déontologie parlementaires and heard from the president of this network. To conclude, members discussed subjects on the agenda for the Committee’s next meeting.
