Member of Parliament Marie-France Lalonde attended the meeting virtually for the Canadian Branch of the APF. She presented a new draft report theme on family patrimony and francophone women, a proposal that was approved by the Network. Ms. Lalonde announced that she would table an initial draft report in July 2024 at the Annual Session of the APF.

Under ParlAmericas’ current funding renewal negotiation with the Government of Canada, there is an opportunity to incorporate program planning and a budget to launch a permanent working group for young parliamentarians – an aspiration that was included in the Regulations adopted by the Plenary Assembly in August 2013.

Members of the Executive considered new initiatives to strengthen the organization’s accountability and transparency, as well as reviewed the work of its Sub-Committee on Finance, including the proposed consolidated budget for 2022.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions to international travel, the session took place with a reduced agenda, focusing primarily on the election of the President for the 2020-2023 term, the IPU’s budget, decisions of the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, and future meetings of the IPU.

The Caribbean Workshop on Human Trafficking, Forced Labour and Contemporary Forms of Exploitation, organized by CPA UK, took place online from February 2 and 3, 2021. Parliamentarians and officials taking part in the workshop represented the UK, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, St Vincent & Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Virgin Islands (UK).
