Report of the Canadian Parliamentary Delegation respecting its participation in the Joint Meeting of the Defence and Security, Economics and Security, and Political Committees

The visit served to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and allowed the delegates to meet with various Canadian officials. A number of topics were discussed, including the functioning of the Parliament of Canada, Parliamentary procedure in a bicameral Parliament and a provincial parliament, accountability, the role of parliamentary officers , trade, immigration, and education.

The Spring Session was hosted by the Estonian parliament and chaired by Parliamentary Assembly President, Dr. Karl Lamers, Member of Parliament from Germany. More than 300 parliamentarians from NATO member countries, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia participated in the session. THE NATO PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY

The visit helped strengthen bilateral relations between the Parliament of Guyana and the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The discussions concerned matters of parliamentary procedure, administration, security and committees.

The visit also presented an occasion for the signature of a joint declaration by Mr. Corneliu Chisu, M.P., Chair of the Canada-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group and Mr. Petru Alexandru Fratean, Senator, Chair of the Romania-Canada Friendship Group of the Romanian Parliament.

The Canada-China Legislative Association (CACN) and the Canada-Japan Interparliamentary Group (CAJP) participated in the 28th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) to discuss regional, political, economic and environmental issues as well as the situation of women in Asia. At the invitation of the Parliament of the Republic of Singapore, the Eighteenth Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) was held in Singapore from 17 to 22 January 2010. 134 parliamentarians from 21 member countries of the APPF and one observer country attended the Annual Meeting.
