More than 800 parliamentarians and parliamentary officials from 134 of the 170 member national, state, provincial and territorial Parliaments and Legislatures around the Commonwealth attended the meetings in New Delhi as guests of the Parliament, government and peoples of India from September 21 to 30, 2007.

Members of Parliament Karen McCrimmon, Darren Fisher, Cheryl Gallant and John McKay participated in this event. This was the second webinar held as part of the NATO PA’s response and adaptation to the COVID 19 crisis.

As well, she underscored the role that the Canadian parliament is playing in considering options to expand Canada’s health system to include a national pharmacare program and in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Spengemann acknowledged that, while Canada has a high global ranking regarding UHC, the system is not perfect.

Adam Isaacs, the head of the European Parliament’s Transatlantic Relations and G8 Unit, Directorate-General for External Policies of the Union, also participated.

The objective of the roundtable, entitled Gender Equality Policy, was to engage participants in a discussion on how to build and maintain a gender sensitive parliament to encourage greater representation of women in parliamentary decision-making.

In addition, they attended Question Period and conducted a site visit to the Centre Block of Parliament, currently undergoing renovations as part of the Long-Term Vision and Plan for the Parliamentary Precinct.

In Romania, the delegation visited the Palace of Parliament, the Cernavoda 2 Project (CANDU nuclear reactor), met the Canadian staff of Cernavoda and their children, and finally, met students of the Canadian MBA Program in Romania.

The Canadian delegation to the 28-29 February 2008 meeting of the Standing Committee of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region (the Standing Committee) consisted of the Honourable Yoine Goldstein. Accompanying the delegation was Mr. Tim Williams from the Parliamentary Information and Research Service of the Library of Parliament as advisor to the delegation.
