Over the three-day series, Members of Parliament from across the Commonwealth were invited to give presentations. Ms. Yasmin Ratansi, MP, Chair of the Canadian Branch of the CPA, gave a presentation on June 21, 2021. Her presentation focused the roles and responsibilities of standing committees in both chambers of the Parliaments of Canada.

Discussion also included an evaluation of the state of poverty alleviation around the world, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the steps necessary to make the achievement of SDG 1 – “End poverty in all its forms everywhere” – a reality.

The objective of the roundtable, entitled Gender Equality Policy, was to engage participants in a discussion on how to build and maintain a gender sensitive parliament to encourage greater representation of women in parliamentary decision-making.
