The Honourable Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, and a parliamentary delegation traveled to Jamaica from February 28 to March 2, 2005. This official visit was the result of an invitation from the Honourable Michael Peart, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jamaica.

Attended by newly elected Members of the Anguilla House of Assembly, the Post-Election Seminar featured panelists presenting from across the Commonwealth. This seminar, which is the CPA’s longest running program, was delivered for the first time fully virtually due to travel restrictions in place during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Ms.

From September 8 to 10, 2014, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Andrew Scheer, M.P., led a parliamentary delegation on a visit to Italy and the Holy See.

Members of the Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union UIPU) participated, two of whom, Rachel Blaney, MP and Sven Spengemann, MP were featured presenters together with Dr. Pechdau Tohmeena from Thailand’s House of Representatives and David Clarke from the World Health Organization. Senator Mohamed-Iqbal Ravalia also attended.

From October 10 to 14, 2006, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Peter Milliken, led a parliamentary delegation composed of Mr. Jim Abbott, M.P., the Honourable Larry Bagnell, P.C., M.P., Mr. Patrick Kennedy, Chief of Staff of the Speaker and Mr. Tõnu Onu, Secretary to the delegation.

Speakers Jon Moulton, CEO and founder of Alchemy Partner and Mr. Michael Fallon, M.P., Vice Chairman of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee, U.K. presented on the topic, An Effective National Response: Perspectives from Opposition and Business – The Impact of Parliamentary Scrutiny on Current and past Government Policies.

From May 24 to 26, 2015, His Excellency Galust Sahakyan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, led a parliamentary delegation to Montreal and Ottawa at the invitation of the Honourable Andrew Scheer, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons.

Mr. Spengemann participated in the panel on the role of men in advancing gender equality. He emphasized recent developments in Canada, including the enactment of the Gender Equality Week Act in 2018, legislation which he had introduced in the House of Commons during the 42nd Parliament.

The COTRA delegation was headed by Mr. Tomás Reyes Ortega, Chair, and included 11 diplomats from EU member states, and two representatives from the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU and the EU’s European External Action Service.
