From 5-8 May 2006, the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group held its 47th Annual Meeting in Charleston, South Carolina. Attending the meeting were seven Canadian Senators and fifteen members of the House of Commons, as well as four American Senators and eleven members of the House of Representatives. The list of delegates is attached.

Mr. Spengemann participated in the panel on the role of men in advancing gender equality. He emphasized recent developments in Canada, including the enactment of the Gender Equality Week Act in 2018, legislation which he had introduced in the House of Commons during the 42nd Parliament.

The delegates also met with the Honourable Anthony Rota, the Speaker of the House of Commons, and Greg Peters, the Usher of the Black Rod. In addition, they attended Question Period and conducted a site visit to the Centre Block of Parliament, currently undergoing renovations as part of the Long-Term Vision and Plan for the Parliamentary Precinct.
