Parliamentary Associations Associations promote the country’s interests abroad on a continuing basis and are composed of both members of the Senate and of the House of Commons. There are 8 Multilateral Associations and 5 Bilateral Associations.

Senators and Members of Parliament represent the Parliament of Canada at home and abroad by participating in activities organized by Parliamentary Associations.

From September 24 to 28, 2007, at the invitation of the Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, the Right Honourable the Baroness Hayman, Lord Speaker of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited Ottawa, Victoria and Vancouver.

From February 10 to 14, 2020, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable George J. Furey, QC, led a parliamentary delegation to the Democratic Republic of Nepal and the Republic of India.

The Canadian delegation was composed of seven parliamentarians: five Members and two Senators. Representatives from nine branches, the Americas secretariat and the APF secretariat were also in attendance. The theme of the Regional Assembly of the Americas was the role of French at school, at work and in politics.
