Parliamentary Associations Associations promote the country’s interests abroad on a continuing basis and are composed of both members of the Senate and of the House of Commons. There are 8 Multilateral Associations and 5 Bilateral Associations.

The Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, and a delegation of senators visited Rome, Vatican City, Skopje, Podgorica and Belgrade from September 2 to 12, 2013.

The Canadian Section of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group shall promote exchanges between Japanese and Canadian Parliamentarians, propose initiatives likely to lead to a better mutual understanding of bilateral and multilateral problems and work to develop co-operation between the two countries in all the fields of human activity.

From June 30 to July 5, 2016, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., led a parliamentary delegation on an official visit to France. Senators in Canada considered these works with great attention in the preparation of “A Matter of Privilege: A Discussion Paper on Canadian Parliamentary Privilege in the 21stCentury,” a report then under consideration by the Senate Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament.
