Council of State Government Annual Conference (CSG) New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (CEUS) SECO December 3, 2024

The Conference occurred from January 31 to February 6 with sessions being held at the Houses of Parliament in London, U.K. for the first four days and the remaining two days hosted by the Northern Ireland Assembly in Belfast, Ireland. The meetings in Northern Ireland were held at the Stormont Building.

Among other issues, association members raised questions about the Canada-U.K. free trade agreement, the U.K.’s Presidency of the G7 group of nations, and the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26), scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in November 2021.

The international executive committee also agreed to postpone the next Commonwealth parliamentary conference, which will be held in Canada, until August 2021. The CPA’s international executive committee (EXCO) meets twice a year, in the spring and just before the annual meeting.

Within the Canadian region, legislators can take part in a wide range of exchange programs, conferences and seminars. The Canadian region also has its own publication, Canadian Parliamentary Review. The Regional Council is the decision-making body for the Canadian region.

1. The Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO met on 1 October 2009 at IPU Headquarters in Geneva and was attended by 21 members of parliament (see list of participants in Annex). The session was co-chaired by Mr. V. Moreira, representing the European Parliament, and, partially, Mr. G. Versnick, representing the IPU.

This webinar was also attended by the Honourable Kim Pate, Senator and Mr. Robert Kitchen, MP. Leading up to the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, which is due to be held from 21–27 August 2021 in Halifax, Canada, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Headquarters Secretariat hosted virtual workshops.
