From June 29-July 1, 2011, Mr. Gord Brown, M.P., Co-Chair of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) represented the Canadian Section of the IPG at the 2011 annual meeting of the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Eight U.S. Governors and the Premier of British Columbia attended the meeting, as did Canada’s Ambassador to the United States.

The Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, and a delegation of Senators visited Albania, Italy, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the Holy See and Malta from October 11 to 18, 2009.

Her remarks focussed on the Senate of Canada’s role within the Parliament of Canada’s legislative process and touched on various themes including oversight, Senate Public Bills and committee work.

These included the release of the IPU’s 2020 Women in Parliament report and related infographic. Senator Ataullahjan highlighted progress towards gender equality in both chambers of the Parliament of Canada, underscoring that the Senate had achieved gender parity.

From 20–23 February 2015, Senator Janis Johnson, Co-Chair of the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG), led a delegation to the winter meeting of the National Governors Association in Washington, D.C. The other delegates were Senator Daniel Lang and Mr. John Carmichael, M.P.

During a panel session (Regulating at Speed and Scale), the Honourable Terry M. Mercer, Senator, discussed the findings of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications’ study on automated vehicles, which were published in its 2018 report entitled Driving Change: Technology and the future of the automated vehicle.

The hearing included remarks by United Nations General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir, and IPU President, Duarte Pacheco, as well as a video address from United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres.
