The Honourable Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu, Senator, and Brenda Shanahan, MP, attended this webinar, intended to train parliamentarians who recently joined the association and its Executive Committee.

MPs Karen McCrimmon and John McKay, along with Senator Pierre Dalphond, participated in this webinar at the beginning of the pandemic. This initiative was in response to the new reality of being unable to meet in person or travel to hold committee meetings and other activities normally scheduled throughout the year.

The virtual meeting was co-hosted by CPA and ParlAmericas; it was chaired by Bahamian Senator Ranard Henfield, Vice-President (Caribbean) of ParlAmericas’ Open Parliament Network. Presiding officers, parliamentarians and clerks from 17 English-speaking legislatures in the Americas and the Caribbean participated in the meeting.

The Honourable Vernon White, Senator, attended the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council (UNIC) meeting that took place in Brussels, Belgium, on January 24, 2022, via videoconference. The Honorable Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu and Jane Cordy, Senators, and MP Cheryl Gallant participated in this webinar. Senator Cordy was a moderator for the first panel, on the topic “10 years After the Arab uprisings.” The first session provided an update on the uprisings and identified lessons NATO countries could learn from the situation.

The French delegation was led by National Assembly Member Christopher Weissberg, Chair of the French Branch of the Association, and Senator Yan Chantrel, Chair of the France–Canada Friendship Group in the Senate.

Senator Ataullahjan highlighted that Canadian women have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. She also noted that the Government of Canada recently launched a “Feminist Response and Recovery Fund” to support women and girls impacted by this crisis.
