SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Food and Drugs Act to include water from a community water system as a food that is subject to regulation under the Act. Water systems that serve fewer than 25 persons or that operate less than 30 days a year are excluded.

The Act is amended to allow for the inspection of any place where water destined for human consumption is accumulated or collected or where any activity takes place that promotes the accumulation of such water, thus allowing for the inspection of lands that form part of the watershed. It also allows for the inspection of any place from which contaminants may escape into a drinking water source.

Le texte modifie la Loi sur les aliments et drogues afin d’ajouter l’eau d’un réseau de distribution d’eau à la liste des aliments assujettis aux règlements d’application de la loi. Sont toutefois exclus les réseaux qui desservent moins de vingt-cinq personnes ou qui sont exploités pendant moins de trente jours par année.

Le texte autorise l’inspection des lieux où l’eau destinée à la consommation humaine s’accumule ou est recueillie, ainsi que les lieux où se déroule toute activité favorisant l’accumulation de cette eau, permettant ainsi la visite des terres qui font partie du bassin hydrographique. Il autorise également l’inspection des lieux d’où peuvent s’échapper des substances susceptibles de contaminer une source d’eau potable.
