Participation of the Honourable Dan Hays, Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable Peter Milliken, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, and a Parliamentary Delegation, to the XIIIth Canada-Mexico Interparliamentary Meeting (IPM), Mexico
From January 24 to 27, 2005, the Speakers of the Senate and of the House of Commons led a delegation composed of:- Honourable Céline Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Senator;
- Honourable Marcel Prud'homme, P.C., Senator;
- Honourable Don Boudria, P.C., M.P.;
- Honourable Ethel M. Cochrane, Senator;
- Honourable John Lynch-Staunton, Senator;
- Mrs. Colleen Beaumier, M.P.;
- Mrs. Monique Guay, M.P.;
- Mrs. Pauline Picard, M.P.; and
- Mr. Chuck Strahl, M.P., Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
While Canadian and Mexican parliamentarians have been meeting on a regular basis since 1975, the meeting held in Mexico City this year was the first where both Canadian Speakers and both Mexican Speakers were present.
Canadian delegates and their Mexican counterparts discussed a wide range of topics under four main themes: agriculture; cooperation; energy; and multilateralism.
The delegates also met with the President of Mexico, Mr. Vicente Fox.
