In light of the passage of time since any outcome was achieved at a ministerial conference, as well as ongoing challenges in the multilateral trading system, he underscored the importance of MC12 in enabling the membership to reach critical decisions and set out a concrete direction for the organization.

The conference included working sessions on the topics of “The Strategic Autonomy of the European Union faced with the new challenges for liberal democracies in times of social media and artificial intelligence as regards foreign and defence policy” and “Strengthening the European Union from an economic and social perspective”.

On December 9 and 10, 2014, Mr. Jacques Chagnon, M.N.A., President of the National Assembly of Quebec, visited Ottawa at the invitation of the Honourable Pierre Claude Nolin, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Andrew Scheer, Speaker of the House of Commons. He was accompanied by Lise Moreau, his Chief of Staff, and Karine Gaudreault, Interparliamentary and International Relations Advisor.
