Visit to Ottawa of Mr. Jacques Chagnon, M.N.A., President of the National Assembly of Quebec
On December 9 and 10, 2014, Mr. Jacques Chagnon, M.N.A., President of the National Assembly of Quebec, visited Ottawa at the invitation of the Honourable Pierre Claude Nolin, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Andrew Scheer, Speaker of the House of Commons. He was accompanied by Lise Moreau, his Chief of Staff, and Karine Gaudreault, Interparliamentary and International Relations Advisor.
President Chagnon met with the following people during his visit to Ottawa:
- the Honourable Pierre Claude Nolin, Speaker of the Senate;
- the Honourable Andrew Scheer, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons; and
- many senators and MPs during official luncheons hosted by Speaker Nolin and Speaker Scheer.
President Chagnon’s visit helped to further relations between the Quebec National Assembly and the Canadian Parliament. Discussions focused on a number of subjects, such as security within the Parliamentary Precinct and that of the National Assembly, renovations on Parliament Hill, the role of the Senate, and matters relating to parliamentary governance, procedure and administration.
