About

The Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) is composed of 56 branches, 18 associate branches and 18 observers and it meets in regular session once a year. It has four standing committees – the Political Committee, the Parliamentary Affairs Committee, the Education, Culture and Communication Committee, and the Economic, Social and Environmental Committee – which meet during the annual session and also once between sessions. The APF also includes the Women’s Parliamentary Network and the Young Parliamentarians’ Network, the Parliamentary Network fighting against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, as well as a board of directors, named le Bureau.

The Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF), known previously as the Assemblée internationale des parlementaires de langue française (AIPLF), is headquartered in Paris and was established in 1967. The Parliament of Canada is a founding member.

In order to ensure good communication among the branches and the Secrétariat général, four regions have been identified: the European region; the African region; the American region, which includes the Canadian Branch and 9 provincial branches; and the recently constituted Asia-Pacific region.

Parliamentary Associations are governed by the procedures set out in their constitutions. These constitutions call for the creation of an executive committee to direct their work and provide for an annual general meeting of the membership.
