An Act to establish Food Day in Canada

Preamble

Whereas Canada’s national sovereignty is dependent on the safety and security of our food supply;

Whereas strengthening connections from farms to tables of Canadian cuisine contributes to our nation’s social, environmental and economic well-being;

Whereas supporting local farmers contributes to a sustainable Canadian food system;

And whereas the people of Canada will benefit from a food day in Canada to celebrate local food as one of the most elemental characteristics of all of the cultures that populate this nation;

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1This Act may be cited as the Food Day in Canada Act.

2Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the Saturday before the first Monday in August is to be known as “Food Day in Canada”.
