SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Agriculture and Agri-Food Act to establish an advisory committee for the pursuit of excellence in agricultural innovation.

An Act to amend the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Act (excellence in agricultural innovation)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1The Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Act is amended by adding the following after section 5.‍1:

Advisory committee

6(1)An advisory committee for the pursuit of excellence in agricultural innovation is established, composed of persons appointed by the Minister, including representatives from:

  • (a)the agriculture and agri-food sectors;

  • (b)the academic and scientific communities;

  • (c)the provinces; and

  • (d)the Department.

(2)The role of the advisory committee is to advise the Minister on any matters within the mandate of the Minister by acting as a centre of excellence for the pursuit of innovation in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, including in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics.

(3)The committee must hold, every year, at least two of its meetings outside the National Capital Region.

No remuneration

(4)Persons appointed by the Minister under subsection (1) are not entitled to receive any remuneration.
