SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Parliament of Canada Act to make it an offence to obstruct the Parliamentary Budget Officer in the performance of his or her powers and functions under the Act.

An Act to amend the Parliament of Canada Act (obstruction)
R.S., c. P-1
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. The Parliament of Canada Act is amended by adding the following after section 80:
Offence
Obstruction
80.1 (1) No person shall obstruct the Parliamentary Budget Officer in the performance of his or her powers and functions under this Act.
Offence and punishment
(2) Every person who knowingly contravenes this section or who fails to provide information requested by the Parliamentary Budget Officer is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction and liable to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or to both.
