SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act to grant a lump sum payment to the heirs of a member who dies in the performance of his or her duties.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
Sa Majesté, sur l'avis et avec le consentement du Sénat et de la Chambre des communes du Canada, édicte :

1. Section 22 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (1.1):
1. L’article 22 de la Loi sur la Gendarmerie royale du Canada est modifié par adjonction, après le paragraphe (1.1), de ce qui suit :
Sum to be paid to member's estate
(1.2) Despite subsection (1), if a member dies in the performance of his or her duties, the Treasury Board shall pay the member’s estate the sum of $300,000, regardless of the length of the member’s service in the Force.
(1.2) Malgré le paragraphe (1), si un membre décède dans l’exercice de ses fonctions, le Conseil du Trésor verse à la succession du membre la somme de 300 000 $, peu importe la durée de son service au sein de la Gendarmerie.
