SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Employment Insurance Act to change the way in which the qualifying period is calculated in the case of a stoppage of work attributable to a labour dispute.

An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (labour dispute)
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Employment Insurance Act
1. (1) Subsection 8(2) of the Employment Insurance Act is amended by striking out “or” at the end of paragraph (c), by adding “or” at the end of paragraph (d) and by adding the following after paragraph (d):
(e) unemployed because of a work stoppage attributable to a labour dispute at the factory, workshop or other premises at which the person was employed.
(2) The Act is amended by adding the following after subsection 8(7):
Labour dispute
(8) Despite subsection (7), the extension of a qualifying period may equal the duration of the period of unemployment due to a labour dispute at the factory, workshop or other location where the person was employed.

2. This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on January 1, 2008.
