SUMMARY
This enactment amends various Acts to remove the requirement that certain agencies, corporations and courts have their head office in Ottawa.

An Act to amend various legislative provisions relating to head offices
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
R.S., c. B-2
BANK OF CANADA ACT
1. Subsection 4(1) of the Bank of Canada Act is replaced by the following:
Head office
4. (1) The head office of the Bank may be situated at any place in Canada.
2. Subsection 17(3) of the Act is replaced by the following:
(3) The shares issued to the Minister shall be registered by the Bank in the name of the Minister in the books of the Bank.

CANADA COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS ACT
3. Section 10 of the Canada Council for the Arts Act is replaced by the following:
Meetings of Council
10. The Council shall meet at least three times a year on such days and at such places in Canada as are fixed by the Council.

CANADA DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION ACT
4. Subsection 4(1) of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation Act is replaced by the following:

4. (1) The head office of the Corporation may be situated at any place in Canada.

5. Section 4 of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Act is replaced by the following:

CANADA SHIPPING ACT
6. Section 469 of the Canada Shipping Act is replaced by the following:
When proceedings not in Canada
469. Where the proceedings described in section 467 are not in Canada, they may, notwithstanding the interest of Her Majesty in right of Canada in the salving ship, proceed according to the law of the Commonwealth country where those proceedings were instituted, but any salvage bond or security given on the release of the ship from detention shall be forthwith transmitted to the Federal Court, in Canada, and that Court has jurisdiction to enforce any bond or security given in any Commonwealth country.

CANADIAN COMMERCIAL CORPORATION ACT
7. Subsection 5(1) of the Canadian Commercial Corporation Act is replaced by the following:
Head office, branches
5. (1) The head office of the Corporation may be situated at any place in Canada, and the Corporation may establish such branch offices, either inside or outside Canada, as it deems necessary to carry out this Act.

CANADIAN DAIRY COMMISSION ACT
8. Subsection 3(8) of the Canadian Dairy Commission Act is replaced by the following:

(8) The head office of the Commission may be situated at any place in Canada, and meetings of the Commission may be held at such other places as the Commission may decide.

EXCISE TAX ACT
9. Subsection 81.25(1) of the Excise Tax Act is replaced by the following:
Notice to Commissioner
81.25 (1) Where an appeal to the Tribunal is instituted otherwise than pursuant to subsection 81.21(1), the Tribunal shall send a notice of the appeal to the Commissioner.

FEDERAL COURTS ACT
10. Subsection 48(2) of the Federal Courts Act is replaced by the following:
Procedure for filing originating document
(2) The original and two copies of the originating document may be filed as required by subsection (1) by being forwarded, together with a remittance for the filing fee, by registered mail addressed to the Registry of the Federal Court.

PETROLEUM AND GAS REVENUE TAX ACT
11. Subsection 21(3) of the Petroleum and Gas Revenue Tax Act is replaced by the following:
Filing application
(3) An application under subsection (1) shall be made by filing with the Registrar of the Tax Court of Canada or by sending by registered mail addressed to the Registrar three copies of the application accompanied by three copies of a notice of objection or notice of appeal, as the case may be.

ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE ACT
12. Section 13 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act is replaced by the following:

13. The headquarters of the Force and the offices of the Commissioner may be situated at any place in Canada.

13. Section 14 of the Supreme Court Act is replaced by the following:

14. The Registrar shall keep an office at any place in Canada.
