An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (extension of benefit period for parental leave)
1996, c. 23
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. (1) Paragraph 23(2)(b) of the Employment Insurance Act is replaced by the following:
(b) that ends 104 weeks after the week in which the child or children of the claimant are born or the child or children are actually placed with the claimant for the purpose of adoption.
(2) Subsection 23(3.1) of the Act is replaced by the following:
Limitation
(3.1) No extension under subsection (3) may result in the period being longer than 156 weeks.
