The Standing Joint Committee of the Library of Parliament met at 9:35 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, for the purpose of electing a Joint Chair (House of Commons), pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present representing the Senate: The Honourable Senators Jean Lapointe, Marjory LeBreton and Marilyn Trenholme Counsell.

 

Members of the Committee present representing the House of Commons: Guy André, Peter Goldring, Susan Kadis, Hon. Gurbax Malhi, Denise Poirier-Rivard, Lui Temelkovski and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members from the House of Commons present: Libby Davies for Bill Siksay and Hon. Karen Redman for Hon. Gerry Byrne.

 

In attendance: Senate: Adam Thompson, Joint Clerk of the Committee. Library of Parliament: James Robertson, Principal; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 
The Joint Clerk (House of Commons) presided over the election of a Joint Chair (House of Commons).
 

On motion of Maurice Vellacott, it was agreed, — That Lui Temelkovski be elected Joint Chair (House of Commons).

 
The Joint Clerk (House of Commons) presided over the election of a Vice-Chair.
 

On motion of Susan Kadis, it was agreed, — That Maurice Vellacott be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Lui Temelkovski took the Chair.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Maurice Vellacott moved, — That the Hon. Tony Valeri be invited to appear before the Committee to provide a status report on the appointment of a new Parliamentary Librarian.

Debate arose thereon.

 

By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 

It was agreed, — That the Joint Chairs write to the Hon. Tony Valeri to request a status report on the appointment of a new Parliamentary Librarian.

 

At 9:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Joint Chairs.
