An Act to amend the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act (rights ceasing to accrue after the end of 2000)

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. The Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act is amended by adding the following afer section 1:

Application only to service before Jan 1, 2001

1.1 (1) This Act applies only to service prior to January 1, 2001.

Contributions and accrual of benefits cease January 1, 2001

(2) No member is entitled to pay a contribu tion under this Act in respect of any annual allowance or salary payable in respect of service as a member, officer or person entitled to a salary under the Salaries Act during any period on or after January 1, 2001, nor to receive any allowance or other benefit under this Act in respect of such service.

Prior service and accrued rights

(3) Nothing in subsections (1) or (2) affects any right under this Act that accrues in respect of service prior to January 1, 2001.
