The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Co-Chair (Senate), The Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, presiding.
Members of the Committee present:
From the Senate: The Hon. Gérald A. Beaudoin, The Hon. Joan Fraser, The Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, The Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, The Hon. Jean-Claude Rivest, The Hon. Louis J. Robichaud.
From the House of Commons: Mauril Bélanger, Yvon Godin, Raymond Lavigne, Val Meredith, Louis Plamondon, Benoît Serré.
Acting Member present: Cliff Breitkreuz for Inky Mark.
Other Senator present: Senator Jean-Maurice Simard.
In attendance: From the Senate: Luc Bégin, Joint-Clerk of the Committee. From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Researcher.
Appearing: From the Treasury Board of Canada: The Hon. Lucienne Robillard, President.
Witnesses: From the Treasury Board of Canada - Secretariat: Marcel Nouvet, Chief Human Resources Officer; Gaston Guénette, Assistant Secretary, Official Language Division.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108 (4) (b), the Committee resumed consideration of official language policies and programs.
The Minister made an opening statement, and with Marcel Nouvet and Gaston Guénette answered questions.
It was agreed, -That the Committee invite officials from the Treasury Board to continue consideration of Official Languages policies and programs.
At 5:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
