SUMMARY

This enactment amends the legal deposit provisions of the National Library Act.

The enactment repeals subsection 13(2) whereby a publisher need deposit only one copy of a book instead of two where the retail value of the book exceeds $50. The enactment also increases the maximum fine for contravention of the legal deposit provisions from $150 to $2,000 (in the case of individuals) and $25,000 (in the case of corporations) and eliminates the possibility of imprisonment as a punishment or in default of payment of a fine. The enactment also provides for Her Majesty in right of Canada to be bound by the National Library Act.
