Visit of the Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, and a Parliamentary Delegation, United Kingdom
From October 18 to 19, 2013, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, led a parliamentary delegation on an official visit to the United Kingdom. The delegation was composed of the Honourable David Smith, P.C., Senator, and Mr. Joe Preston, M.P. Accompanying the delegation was Ms. Janelle Feldstein, Chief of Staff of the Speaker of the Senate.
In London, the delegation met with:
- Dr. William Shija, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA);
- Mr. Rhodri Walters, Reading Clerk of the House of Lords;
- Ms. Charlotte Restorick, Parliamentary Secretary to the Rt. Hon. Sir Alan Haselhurst, MP, Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Executive Committee;
- Mr. David Beamish, Clerk of the Parliaments;
- Mr. Brendan Keith, Registrar of Lords Interests;
- Mr. Duncan Sagar, former Parliamentary Secretary to the Clerk of the Parliaments; and
- Mr. Gordon Campbell, High Commissioner for Canada to the United Kingdom.
The objectives of the visit were to discuss a range of issues regarding the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, examine reform proposals for the House of Lords and parliament governance issues, as well as discussing the possible disposition of Canadian assets in London.
