From October 10 to 14, 2022, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Anthony Rota, M.P., led a parliamentary delegation to the Republic of Malta and the Republic of Albania. The delegation consisted of Mr. Richard Cannings, M.P., Ms. Ruby Sahota, M.P., Mr. Kevin Waugh, M.P. and Ms. Christine Normandin, M.P. Accompanying the delegation were Mrs. Chantal Piché Rota, Mr. Anthony Carricato, Director of Outreach and Events, Office of the Speaker of the House of Commons, and Ms. Ariane Calvert, Secretary to the delegation.

The purpose of the visit to the Republic of Malta was to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries and to promote democratic values and Canadian interests in the Republic of Malta. The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest related to international and regional security and stability, such as asylum applications and refugees in Malta.
The visit to Albania served to commemorate the 35 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Albania and to significantly strengthen our bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation. Furthermore, Speaker Rota addressed the Parliament of Albania where he spoke about opportunities for our respective parliaments to collaborate on common issues, such as strengthening human rights, diversity, gender equality and climate change. The delegation discussed foreign and defence policies of international and mutual interests, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
