Visit to Canada of His Excellency Stanislaw Karczewski, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland
On November 6, 2018, the Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Geoff Regan, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, received in Parliament His Excellency Stanislaw Karczewski, Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland. His Excellency was accompanied by Senator Aleksander Tomasz Bobko, Senator Piotr Florek, and Mr. Piotr Koperski, Chief Specialist of the Office for International and European Union Affairs. The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Canada, His Excellency Andrzej Kurnicki also attended the meetings.
In Parliament, the Marshal met with:
- The Honourable Geoff Regan, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons;
- The Honourable Peter V. Harder, Senator, Government Representative in the Senate (on behalf of Speaker Furey); and
- Mr. Peter Fonseca, M.P., Chair of the Canada – Poland Parliamentary Friendship Group
The delegation also met with Senators and officials from the Senate Administration at a luncheon hosted by Senator Harder, on behalf of Speaker Furey. The visit was an opportunity to underline the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence, strengthen bilateral relations between both Parliaments and to discuss numerous topics, including the importance of democracy and parliamentary diplomacy as well as the latest developments regarding the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement in Poland.
