Visit of the Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., Speaker of the Senate of Canada, United Kingdom
From May 10 to 14, 2018, the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, the Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., conducted an official visit to the United Kingdom. Accompanying the Speaker were Mrs. Karen Furey, and Mr. Stuart Barnable, Chief of Staff.
While in London, the delegation met with The Right Honourable the Lord Fowler, Lord Speaker of the House of Lords. In Windsor, Speaker Furey had the great honour of being granted an audience with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The main objective of the visit to England was to strengthen relations with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada and the Monarchy and to obtain an artifact from the Royal Collection for the new location of the Senate of Canada. The Queen Victoria Winter Sleigh is a unique element of the Royal collection and will reinforce ties between the Crown and the Parliament of Canada, and will complement holiday displays in the Senate of Canada.
