Following the Association’s experience with the 2002 presidential election, the Executive Committee of the Canada–France Interparliamentary Association decided to repeat the experience during the 2007 election by sending a delegation of parliamentarians to France.

Discussions were held on the functioning of parliament in Canada and on the topics of education, energy, mining and agriculture. The delegation of the Republic of Chile showed a particular interest in enhancing the mechanisms for exchanges and partnerships between both countries in several areas of interest.

This committee is composed of one representative from each province and territory and one from the federal Parliament. A chair oversees its activities and represents Canada on the CWP international steering committee.

From June 30 to July 5, 2016, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., led a parliamentary delegation on an official visit to France. The Honourable Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, and a parliamentary delegation travelled to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from January 10 to 12, 2005. This official visit was the result of an invitation from Mr. Chaudhry Amir Hussain, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Plenary sessions were held in relation to the following topics: Parliamentarians and the Pandemic; Security; E-Parliament; and the Role of Presiding Officers in Leading Parliamentary Innovation. A special plenary session was also held concerning Training for Members and Staff.

The discussion touched on international relations, primarily the Pan‑African Parliament and the southern African region. The Canadian representatives ended the meeting by describing the problems a parliament faces when there is a minority government, but made it clear that the two parliaments’ committee systems had many things in common.
