Canada–U.S. IPG Attends 2015 Spring Meeting
of the Can/Am Border Trade Alliance

On 4 May 2015, Mr. Gord Brown, M.P., House of Commons Co-Chair of the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG), and Senator Daniel Lang spoke at the spring meeting of the Canadian/American Border Trade Alliance (Can/Am BTA) in Ottawa, Ontario. Their remarks focused on the recent past and expected future activities of the Canadian Section. As well, Mr. Tarik Brahmi, M.P. and Ms. Yvonne Jones, M.P. were Canadian Section delegates.

“The Canada–United States IPG and the Can/Am BTA continue to have a relationship that reflects shared goals: prosperity for the benefit of businesses and people in Canada and the United States. Clearly, we also both hold the view that the relationship between our two countries is not just about trade; it is also a friendship that has been built and nurtured over decades,” said Mr. Brown.

Mr. Brown concluded: “From the perspective of the IPG’s Canadian Section, our participation at the spring and fall BTA meetings provides us with an important opportunity to speak about our efforts designed to enhance joint trade and prosperity, as well as to learn from those at the meeting about the realities faced daily at the borders that Canada shares with the United States.”

The Can/Am BTA holds two meetings each year: in the spring in Ottawa and in the fall in Washington, D.C. The BTA is a coalition of businesses, public-sector organizations and individuals with an interest in bilateral trade and tourism. Its mission is to maximize commercial activity and ensure continued growth in cross-border trade, as well as efficient and productive border-crossing capabilities.

It should be noted that the views expressed in this news release are specific to the Canadian Section of the Canada-United States IPG and, as such, may not reflect the views of U.S. counterparts.

The Canada-United States IPG aims to find points of convergence in respective national policies, to initiate dialogue on points of divergence, to encourage the exchange of information and to promote better understanding among legislators on shared issues of concern.
