Canadian
Section of the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group to Host
Members of the U.S. Congress at the Annual Meeting in Ottawa
Senator Janis Johnson (Manitoba)
and Mr. Gord Brown, M.P. (Ontario), Co‑Chairs of the Canada-United States
Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG), will host the IPG’s 54th annual
meeting in Ottawa from 6-9 June 2014. Twenty‑four Canadian and American
federal legislators will discuss a range of issues that are significant to both
countries.
The first annual meeting of the IPG was held on 9-10 January
1959 in Washington, D.C., and federal legislators from both countries have attempted
to meet annually since that time, with the meeting alternating between the two
countries. The annual meeting is a primary means by which the IPG achieves its
goals of identifying shared values and finding possible solutions to a variety
of bilateral and multilateral issues of concern to both countries.
