Mr. Russ Hiebert, M.P. attended the EXCO meeting in Sabah, Malaysia on behalf of the Canadian Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association from April 28 to 30, 2015

Regional Representatives:

Africa: Botswana, Ghana, Rwanda, Swaziland, and South Africa.

Asia: Sri Lanka and Punjab (Pakistan).

Australia: Australian Capital Territory, Norfolk Island, and Northern Territory.

British Islands and Mediterranean: Malta, St. Helena, United Kingdom.

Canada: Canada, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic: St. Lucia and Montserrat.

India: Lok Sabha India, Punjab and Goa.

Pacific: New Zealand and Samoa.

South-East Asia: Perak, Malaysia and Singapore.

CPA Executive/Subcommittees Meetings Topics Included:

As stated on the CPA’s web site: “The Constitution of the CPA vests in an Executive Committee the control and management of the activities and business of the Association. The Executive Committee meets just prior to and just after the General Assembly, to which it reports, and the Executive Committee holds a second meeting in another Commonwealth country midway between General Assemblies.” At its Sabah’s meeting, members discussed the following topics:

Recruitment of the Secretary-General, Chairperson’s Update;

Acting Secretary-General and Director of Finance’s Report;

CPA Business Plan – Performance Scorecard;

CPA Communications Strategy and Marketing Plan;

Regional Secretaries Attendance at Executive Committee Meetings;

Review of CPA Branch Delegate Entitlement to the Annual Conference Membership report;

CPA Submission to Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM),

Strengthening the Role of Small Branches – Update,

Arrangements for the 61st Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference and Associated Meetings,

Drafting of the annual report of the Executive Committee; and

Reports on visits since October 2014.
