An Act to amend the Criminal Code (motor vehicle theft)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. The Criminal Code is amended by adding the following after section 334:

1. Le Code criminel est modifié par adjonction, après l’article 334, de ce qui suit :

Punishment for motor vehicle theft

334.1 Every one who commits theft of a motor vehicle is guilty of an indictable offence or an offence punishable on summary conviction and is liable

(a) if the offence is prosecuted by indictment, to imprisonment for a term of not more than ten years; and

(b) if the offence is punishable on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term of not more than two years.

334.1 Quiconque commet un vol de véhicule à moteur est coupable d’une infraction punissable sur déclaration de culpabilité par mise en accusation ou par procédure sommaire et est passible,

Vol d’un véhicule à moteur

a) si l'infraction est poursuivie par mise en accusation, d'un emprisonnement maximal de dix ans;

b) si l'infraction est poursuivie par procédure sommaire, d'un emprisonnement maximal de deux ans.
