RECOMMENDATION

Her Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled “An Act to amend the Old Age Security Act (Guaranteed Income Supplement)”.

SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Old Age Security Act to exclude from a person’s income any payment under the Canada Emergency Response Benefit Act, Part VIII.‍4 of the Employment Insurance Act, the Canada Recovery Benefits Act or the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit Act for the purposes of calculating the amount of the guaranteed income supplement and allowances payable in respect of any month after June 2022.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Old Age Security Act

1The definition income in section 2 of the Old Age Security Act is amended by adding the following after paragraph (c):

  • (c.‍1)for the purpose of determining benefits payable in respect of any month after June 2022, there shall be deducted from the person’s income for the year the amount of any payment under

    • (i)the Canada Emergency Response Benefit Act,

    • (ii)Part VIII.‍4 of the Employment Insurance Act,

    • (iii)the Canada Recovery Benefits Act, and

    • (iv)the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit Act,
