An Act to provide for reporting on compliance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Short title

1This Act may be cited as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Reporting Act.

Report

2(1)The Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, in consultation with representatives of provincial and territorial governments and of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, must prepare an annual report on Canada’s compliance, during the preceding year, with its obligations under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on September 13, 2007.

Report to Parliament

(2)The Minister must cause the report to be tabled before each House of Parliament within the first 15 sitting days following the second of June in each year.

Coming into force

3This Act comes into force on January 1 of the year after the year in which this Act receives royal assent.
