SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Food and Drugs Act to require that the sugar content of prepackaged products appear on the label.

An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (sugar content labelling)

R.‍S.‍, c. F-27

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1Section 5 of the Food and Drugs Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (2):

Sugar content

Start of inserted block

(3)No person shall sell or advertise a prepackaged product unless it has a label on its principal display panel that contains the prescribed information with respect to its sugar content and that complies with the prescribed dimensions, spacing and use of upper and lower case letters and bold type.

2Subsection 30(1) of the Act is amended by adding the following after paragraph (b):

    (b.‍1)respecting the labelling of a prepackaged product with regard to its sugar content, including the dimensions of the label, the spacing and the use of upper and lower case letters and bold type;
