Tuesday, May 7, 2002

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:35 p.m., this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Co-Chairs, The Hon. Shirley Maheu and Mauril Bélanger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

From the Senate : The Honourables Gérald A. Beaudoin, Jean-Robert Gauthier, Viola Léger, Shirley Maheu, Raymond C. Setlakwe.

From the House of Commons : Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, Jason Kenney and Yolande Thibeault.

Acting Member present: Louis Plamondon for Benoît Sauvageau.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Association for Canadian Studies: Jack Jedwab, Executive Director. From the "Société franco-manitobaine": Daniel Boucher, President and Executive Director.

In accordance with Standing Order 108(4)b), the Committee resumed its study on Part VII of The Official Languages Act.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
