Meeting No. 22

Tuesday, November 6, 2001

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Co-Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

From the Senate: The Hon. Gerard J. Comeau, The Hon. Pierre DeBané, The Hon. Sheila Finestone, The Hon. Joan Fraser, The Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, The Hon. Jean-Claude Rivest.

From the House of Commons: Eugène Bellemare, Gérard Binet, Sarmite Bulte, Christiane Gagnon, Yvon Godin, John Herron, Scott Reid and Yolande Thibeault.

In attendance: From the Senate:, Tonu Onu, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the House of Commons: Jean-François Pagé, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Jean-Pierre Blais, Executive Director, Broadcasting; Réjean Myre, Director, French Language Radio-Television. From the Library of Parliament: Robert Asselin, Research Officer.

In accordance with Standing Order 108(4b), a briefing session on Article 41 of the Official Languages Act.

The Committee begins its session in public.

Mr. Blais makes an opening statement on the decision of the CRTC concerning the file on CPAC and answered questions.

At 4:11p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

M. Asselin makes an opening statement and answered questions.

 At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
