Wednesday, September 26, 2001

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Co-Chairs, The Hon. Shirley Maheu and Mauril Bélanger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

From the Senate: The Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, The Hon. Jean-Claude Rivest, The Hon. Raymond C. Setlakwe.

From the House of Commons: Gérard Binet, Sarmite Bulte, Yvon Godin, Scott Reid, Benoît Sauvageau, Yolande Thibeault.

Acting Member present: Peter Goldring for Rahim Jaffer.

In attendance: From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Co-Clerk of the Committee; From the House of Commons: Jean-François Pagé, Co-Clerk of the Committee; From the Library of Parliament: Robert Asselin, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Dyane Adam, Commissioner of Official Languages; Gérard Finn, Director General, Policy and Communications Branch; Michel Robichaud, Director General, Investigations Branch; Johane Tremblay, General Counsel and Director of Legal Services.

In accordance with Standing Order 108(4) (b), the review of the Annual Report 2000-2001, of the Commissioner of Official Languages.

Ms. Adam made a presentation on the Annual Report (2000-2001) of the Commissioner of Official Languages. The Commissioner then answered questions.

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
