Thursday, December 3, 1998

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 256-S, Centre Block, the Co-Chair, The Hon. Sheila Finestone, presiding.

Representing the Senate: The Hon. Gérald A. Beaudoin, The Hon. Joan Fraser, The Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool and The Hon. Louis J. Robichaud.

Representing the House of Commons: Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, The Hon. Sheila Finestone, Val Meredith, Mark Muise, Denis Paradis and Louis Plamondon.

Acting Members present: Randy White for Peter Goldring; Gurmant Grewal for Peter Goldring, Chuck Strahl for Inky Mark.

Other Senator present: The Hon. Eymard Corbin.

Other Member present: Cliff Breitkruz.

In attendance: Tonu Onu, Joint Clerk of the Committee (Senate). From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Researcher.

Witness: As Individual: Dyane Adam, Principal of Glendon College.

Pursuant to S.O. 108(4)(b), an examination of the role of the Commissioner of Official Languages.

The witness made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:40 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
