Monday, May 25, 1998

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 4:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 362 EB, the Co-Chair, Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate: Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, Gérald A. Beaudoin, Louis J. Robichaud.

Representing the House of Commons: Claudette Bradshaw, Cliff Breitkreutz, Rahim Jaffer, Denis Paradis, Louis Plamondon and Angela Vautour.

Acting Members present: Ian Murray for Eugène Bellemare, Mauril Bélanger for Denis Coderre Réginald Bélair for Dan McTeague, Sarmite Bulte for Ted McWhinney and Randy White for Val Meredith.

In attendance: Tonu Onu, Joint Clerk of the Committee. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(4)(b), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of official languages policies and programs.

Witness: From the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Victor Goldbloom, Commissioner of Official Languages.

The witness made an opening statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
