Canadian Parliamentarians meet with Members of the Chamber of Marine Commerce

On 25 February 2020, members of the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) met with a delegation from the Chamber of Marine Commerce. The delegation was led by the organization’s president, Bruce Burrows.

“Meeting with representatives of the Chamber of Marine Commerce enabled members of the IPG’s Canadian Section to discuss various aspects of marine transportation within the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, Coastal and Arctic regions.,” said the Honourable Wayne Easter, P.C., M.P., Co-Chair of the IPG’s Canadian Section. “The commercial operators who navigate these water systems, as well as the businesses that enable or support them, are important components of the supply chains that connect Canada and the United States.”

Mr. Easter concluded: “Members of Canadian section appreciated meeting with the representatives of the Chamber of Marine Commerce and welcomed the information they provided. Like us, the Chamber desires efficient and effective trade with the United States. Hearing from groups like this helps the IPG with its ongoing work.”

The Chamber of Marine Commerce is a bi-national, private sector, not-for-profit association that advocates for safe, sustainable, harmonized and competitive policies and regulations for the marine transportation system in the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence, Coastal and Arctic regions.

The Canada–United States IPG aims to find points of convergence in respective national policies, to initiate dialogue on points of divergence, to encourage the exchange of information and to promote better understanding among legislators on shared issues of concern.
