An Act to establish Pope John Paul II Day
Whereas Pope John Paul II served as the pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church from October 16, 1978, until his death on April 2, 2005;
Whereas Pope John Paul II is widely recognized as a leading figure in the history of the Roman Catholic Church and the world;
And whereas Pope John Paul II visited many countries around the world and helped to end communism in Eastern Europe;

que le pape Jean-Paul II a été le souverain pontife de l’Église catholique romaine du 16 octobre 1978 jusqu'à sa mort, le 2 avril 2005;
que le pape Jean-Paul II est largement reconnu comme une figure marquante de l’histoire de l’Église catholique romaine et du monde;
que le pape Jean-Paul II a visité de nombreux pays et qu’il a contribué à mettre fin au communisme en Europe de l’Est,
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the Pope John Paul II Day Act.
