SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Criminal Code to make it an offence to use a hand-held telecommunications device for sending or receiving messages in text format or a hand-held cellular telephone while operating a motor vehicle on a highway.
Section 2 of the Criminal Code specifies that “highway” means “a road to which the public has the right of access, and includes bridges over which or tunnels through which a road passes”.

Le texte modifie le Code criminel afin d’ériger en infraction l’utilisation d’un appareil de communication portatif pour envoyer ou recevoir des messages textes ou l'utilisation d'un téléphone cellulaire portatif pendant la conduite d’un véhicule à moteur sur une voie publique.
L'article 2 du Code criminel précise que « voie publique » s'entend d'un « chemin auquel le public a droit d'accès, y compris les ponts ou tunnels situés sur le parcours d'un chemin ».
