An Act to establish the Canadian Motion Picture Industry Secretariat

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Canadian Motion Picture Industry Secretariat Act.

2. In this Act, “Secretariat” means the Canadian Motion Picture Industry Secretariat established by subsection 3(1).

3. (1) There is hereby established a secretariat, to be called the Canadian Motion Picture Industry Secretariat, for the purpose of ensuring that the motion picture industry in Canada remains internationally competitive and successful.

3. (1) Est constitué le Secrétariat de l’industrie cinématographique canadienne chargé de veiller à ce que l’industrie cinématographique canadienne demeure concurrentielle à l’échelle internationale et florissante.

(2) The Secretariat shall be composed of representatives from major motion picture industry sectors across Canada.

(2) Le Secrétariat est composé de représentants des principaux secteurs de l’industrie cinématographique de tout le Canada.

4. The Secretariat shall monitor the motion picture industry and make recommendations regarding any legislative and other measures that could be taken by the Government of Canada in support of an internationally compet­-itive and successful motion picture industry in Canada including both domestic and foreign productions.

4. Le Secrétariat est chargé de surveiller l’industrie cinématographique et de faire des recommandations quant aux mesures — notamment législatives — que pourrait prendre le gouvernement du Canada en vue de soutenir une industrie cinématographique canadienne concurrentielle à l’échelle internationale et florissante, tant pour les productions canadiennes que pour les productions internationales.

5. Within one year after the coming into force of this Act, and every six months thereafter, the Secretariat shall cause to be submitted to each House of Parliament a report on the monitoring carried out under section 4, including a statement of recommendations made by the Secretariat.

5. Dans l’année suivant l’entrée en vigueur de la présente loi et tous les six mois par la suite, le Secrétariat fait déposer devant chaque chambre du Parlement un rapport sur la surveillance effectuée en application de l’article 4, assorti des recommandations qu’il a formulées, le cas échéant.
